Cheers to my first skincare product review!
I was a late bloomer when it came to being sensible and taking care of my skin. In fact, I’m pretty certain I started doing that just sometime early this year. Thankfully I’ve been blessed with tough skin, which needs just basic care so I’ve managed to get through my teens without acne leaving terrible scars or open pores.
Anywaaaay, as a college student who survives on a budget, I usually never splurge on expensive skin care products. But here’s a big YAY for my mom, who is a skincare freak and always does! So a short while ago, I spent around three weeks at home, and I got to try some of her new finds and pamper myself. Innisfree was one. And really, this review wasn’t even planned but I got such fantastic results within a week of using them that I simply had to write one.
Innisfree is a Korean skincare brand and my mother got it imported because there was a sale happening and the lord knows my mother loves a good sale. Big mistake, she had to pay 40% extra for customs and it turns out buying it from Nykaa was cheaper.
Anywaaay, moving on.
I got to try three Innisfree products – the Canola Honey Lip Balm, the Orchid Enriched Cream and the Green Tea Seed Serum.
The Orchid Enriched cream (INR 2000) is an excellent moisturizer, quite possibly one of the very best I’ve gotten to use. I used it at night right before I’d go to sleep and I’d wake up with soft, plump, bouncy skin. Also, smells like a dream. It is non-greasy, very light and gets absorbed instantly. I would recommend this any day and I cannot wait for the day when I can actually afford this without flinching. Definitely an excellent investment if you’re looking to improve your skin’s texture!
This is the only BEFORE picture I have as I did not carry my camera home and I really wasn’t prepared for a review at all in any way. Uh, so bear with me because I only have selfies on this post but I promise, the next ones are all loaded with decent dslr ones for sure.
But anyway, the point is, my skin here is pretty dull and my forehead isn’t clear and these really were the two things I was hoping would show a difference by the time I was done with my new skincare regime.
The Canola Honey lip balm (INR 450) lasts for an average of four to five hours and is excellent, and so despite my tight budget, I’ve invested in one of these for this month. It is THAT good. Provides deep moisture and leaves your lip soft and plump. The one issue I’ve had with most lip balms I’ve tried over the years is how it leaves a sticky coat over the lips once you apply it and that’s where this stands out as a wonderful product! It gets absorbed immediately and is light on the lips, but still leaving it intensely moisturized and ultra soft.
Finally there’s the Green Tea Seed Serum (INR 1950). To be honest, I’m not too sure about what this does for the skin but I’ve read up about it and it is just a good hydrator. Because I couldn’t really understand the difference between this and the cream, I tried the serum in the morning (I didn’t have any exposure to sun because I was indoors all week) and in my honest opinion, the serum’s hydration ability isn’t as good as the Orchid Enriched Cream. I’d pick the latter any day.
Overall I’m extremely satisfied with the first two products I used and I’d recommend these to anyone and all skin types since I have combination skin and my mother has oily, but the products worked perfectly for both of us! Again I only have selfies for after pictures (this is truly incredibly embarrassing but honestly next time proper pictures I swear) but I swear, my skin was radiant and glowing in a week and significantly softer.
I would also like to add that during this period, I did not alter my diet from the usual junk and excessive amounts of meat I consume so, I honestly don’t think the changes I did observe on my skin are because of anything else. However I did try a new face wash (also my mother’s) the Kaya Soothing Cleansing gel (INR 550) and I found it to be a light, excellent foamy face wash which did not dry the hell out of my face like my regular, inexpensive face washes from the past and surprisingly was effective enough to remove my kohl remains at the end of the day. I really liked this product as well so I’m just going to leave the link for this with the rest!
So in conclusion, my opinion for the Innisfree products is, if you can afford it and it is well in your budget, I’d say GO FOR IT! You certainly won’t regret it.
